Preparing a decision in Decision Table is a simple four-step process.  First open a new decision table, define who will take it and when, and add any assumptions being made going into it.  Second, add 2-4 potential decision options or “scenarios”  that cover the range of potential paths forward.  Third, define a number of decision criteria or “factors” by which each scenario will be judged; these can be quantitative and/or qualitative and come with a range of different display options.  Finally  run through each scenario scoring it against each factor, to create a visual overview of the decision.   Optionally factors can also be weighted and an overall score attached to each scenario to aid in final decision making.  

Once the decision is captured in 80/20 fashion,  the clear, transparent display provides a platform for discussion and challenge, including the extent to which implicit and explicit biases may have impacted the scoring.
